Scripwriter and Songwriter
Len Pentin, Scriptwriter, Songwriter and Vocalist
Len wrote the script and the music for Avondale. When he presented the idea to the Cork Jacket Crew they were surprised and delighted with both the storyline and the variety of wonderful songs.
His past work includes Cork Jackets and Drill (performed with the Cork Jacket Crew) and Stageplays such as Slappers & Slapheads, Fun Like Stalingrad and Tina Duckett Says.
He has also worked as a writer for BBC Radio Merseyside on its comedy series Paradise People.
He presently teaches Creative Writing in Frodsham and online via Fiverr
Len is a very accomplished singer, guitarist and keyboard player
Siobhan Nelson, Lead Vocalist
Siobhan is one half of the duo Chris & Siobhan Nelson, and is a resident singer at Southport's Bothy Folk Club.
She has been singer with various bands over the years, including Cluster of Nuts, The New St George, The Nork Trellis Band and Nelsons Wake.
She was a founder member of Southampton-based Loose Screws Appalachian Dancers, and its later incarnation, Kaleidoscope.
Prior to working on Avondale, Siobhan was part of the 'crew' of the show Cork Jackets and Drill, and she has also - with Chris - been working as a trio with Len Pentin, writer of both shows.
In the show, Siobhan performs as a lead vocalist as well as providing backing harmonies
Vocalist, Mandolin, Fiddle
Chris Nelson, Lead Vocalist, Fiddle and Mandolin
Since the late 1970s, Chris has played fiddle and sung in a series of bands including the Cluster of Nuts Band, The New St George, Midnight Flyers, Merseybillies, and (with Siobhan Nelson and Barry Wake) Nelsons Wake.
In recent years he has concentrated on his duo with Siobhan and he also is a resident singer at Southport’s famous Bothy Folk Club.
Chris is an original member of the Cork Jacket Crew, having performed in Len Pentin’s previous show, Cork Jackets and Drill. In the 1990s, when living in Southampton, he also contributed music for several theatre productions by the Maskers Theatre Company and A Motley Crew.
Mike Huddart, Bass Player, backing vocals
Mike first played bass in a blues band at Manchester University in the sixties.
After early retirement from the IT industry he moved to the Isle of Wight and joined the Hillmans Bluesband playing several hundred gigs all over the South of England.
Mike plays bass in a lyrical, driving style on left-handed custom acoustic and electric basses made by the late Irish luthier Chris Larkin.
Mike and his wife Val moved to Lancashire in 2015 where he formed Untrained-Melody blues/folk band with local musicians from the Bothy Folk Club.
In 2018 joined the Cork Jacket Crew for the last two performances of Cork Jackets and Drill.
Don Palmer, Vocals and Acoustic Guitar
Don grew up in Los Angeles, California involved with acting and musical theatre from a young age.
Awarded a scholarship to study theatre at university and began playing guitar at the same time. He briefly played with rock bands, but moved into open mic settings after switching to study Human Biology.
With his partner Anastacia, he opened a successful long running art-music coffee house (Anastasia's Asylum) in Santa Monica, which afforded him his own venue to do occasional open mic sessions.
He moved to the UK in 1998 with his English wife and was the guitarist and singer for a rock band for several years occasionally performing roles in Amateur Dramatic Society musicals.
He is returning to music after long hiatus whilst building a business in Lancashire.
